Here, kitty, kitty

Sitting in this bar
fifty miles from home
(that does not feel like home)
a blue Persian cat making love to my legs

the beer, head-splitting cold, and
I drink deep
then reach down to scratch his head
against my knee

I came here to forget
to disappear into a dim crowd
his amorous
attention to my shins
making my eyes misty

a lick of pretzel salt
from my finger with a rough tongue
throat vibrating
against my palm
when he purrs

One morning

The sun, oh that sun
that shines from the east first thing
my morning a wonder as I glide through
(shuffling?) maybe
considering all the unsaid words
as he shuts the door
exhaling, then finding
the best, deepest breath ever.
I am not lonely–
and the sun (remember the sun)
shining on the fragrant basil plants
still in a cardboard box from the farm stand
I wonder
if I will pot them today
for now I am gliding.
Coffee pot. Book. Pen and paper.

Hello out there

I am late for autumn
being all in my head
in shut-up rooms
this colourful season
of dying to life

Rainfalls of leaves
I had danced in
two years previous
I have seen, only
on screens and
more screens

While I wile, pushing
words around, and
cooking like I am
hoarding for winter
squirreling away
our secrets

and our best hopes
for another spring

Sunday Random: prayer

  • I don’t always go to church.
  • That said, I miss it, now that it has not been an option for 3 weeks.
  • I have been a born-again Christian for years–
  • but that building with people in it, and the idea of it, was something I was having difficulty getting my mind around.
  • And, it is Sunday again, but that isn’t what my thoughts were about this morning, when I woke.
  • They were about prayer
  • and gratitude.

Sunrise last October
